The Grey Poster Analysis

The Grey Poster Analysis

As soon as you look at this poster, you immediately see a man staring straight at you. This makes the audience feel that he is looking at them, and that he is determined to do something and is on a mission. We can also see that he has a cut on the side of his face, which could signify that he has been in a fight and so the film has a decent amount of action within it. Another thing that is also eye catching is the intense blue eyes he has. This could be a reflection that he is the good guy but he is also very good at what he does. The close-up shot of his face could also mean that he uses his head more than anything and that he is very intelligent. As the body isn't shown, it could mean he uses his head when dealing with problems and when in fights with people, as you would expect him to encounter this stuff in an action movie.

The poster has snow dropping down it, which could mean that the movie is set in a snowy environment, which can be a very dangerous and unpredictable place, perfect for action movies.

The person on the poster must be the main character, and is being played by an internationally famous actor, Liam Neeson. This would convince that it would be a good movie as he is such a prestigious actor, and is very famous for his action films.

Finally, the title, The Grey, is the biggest writing on the poster, making it stand out and is plain white with some dirt marks on it. This leaves the audience with an enigma, what is The Grey? The title is also very obscure and vague, and makes the audience question it even more, making them want to see it to find out what it means. Underneath the title, there is the caption "Live or Die on This Day!", which is a convention of a action genre as the characters are usually tasked with something that can only have two outcomes; life or death. It also means that he is got a short time to accomplish his mission, and so the film is expected to be fast-paced, a common feature of an action film. It leaves us with the enigma what is it that's a matter of life or death, and so makes the audience want to go to watch it even more to find out.
