The Dark Knight Poster Analysis

The Dark Knight Poster Analysis

One of the first things the audience would notice is a giant bat symbol on fire, which is convention of an action genre. This is The Dark Knights symbol and is recognised globally, and so stands out making the audience wanting to see more of the poster and then the film. The bat being on fire could signify that the main character, Batman, is in danger or that Batman has a darker side than what fans of the fictional character initially thought. This would entice people to go watch it to find out what the new Batman is like and how he will be presented. This relates to Batman as he is generally seen as an anti-hero.

The main characters of the film are on the poster with their surnames in bold, making them stand out to persuade people to come watch the film as there are well-known actors in it. The surnames in bold is conventional of an action as characters are generally known through their surnames, for example Bond from James Bond 007.

The background image sets tone and the location without giving too much away about the film, the dark colours and smoke creates the atmosphere of an action movie.

The poster also has a caption at the top, which implies that there is a lot of chaos and anarchy in the film, another convention of an action film.

Lastly, the main aspect of the poster is the main character looking down on the audience with a building burning and crumbling behind him, which is a typical convention of an action film of a hero not looking at destruction such as explosions, which could relfect the evil behind them after defeating it. His angry and mysterious look creates an excitement to the viewer.
